This is a time consuming job, if it’s done correctly, but it will save you a lot of money on your heating costs and prolong the life of your heating system and it’s components.

The Black Sludge, which forms in heating systems, is caused by corrosion on the insides of Radiators etc. and occurs because of the presence of air in the water. If a Corrosion Inhibitor is put in the System it prevents the formation of Sludge, but it loses its effectiveness over a period of time and needs replacing after approximately 3-5 years. Putting Inhibitor in a System that already contains Sludge is pointless, the corrosion is already present.

You can identify that your heating system needs cleaning out if ...................................................contd.

If the boiler is making a noise like a kettle beginning to boil, its because Limescale has formed on the inside of the Heat Exchanger in the Boiler, this makes the Boiler Thermostat record the wrong temperature and then heat the water to a higher temperature than it should; causing the boiling noises. Apart from the cost of heating the water to a temperature that is too high, it also damages components on the heating system and boiler.

Once the boiler Heat Exchanger scales-up, it rapidly escalates because of the higher temperature of the water, resulting in more scale being produced. The Boiler needs Descaling.

If your heating is suffering with any of these symptoms, you can be wasting up to 50% of the gas you are using.
